The Sinner's Prayer

The Sinner's Prayer, also called salvation prayer is a prayer of repentance. Anyone that feels conviction of their sins, and is ready to accept Christ into their hearts as Lord and Savior and confesses with their mouth that Jesus is Lord, will be saved. Receiving Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior makes you born again!

Bible reference:

Romans 10:10-13

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The "Sinner’s Prayer" takes various forms, all of which have the same general idea. Since the Sinner's Prayer is considered a matter of one's personal will, it can be prayed silently, aloud, or read from a suggested model. There is no formula of specific words considered essential, although it usually contains an admission of sin and a petition asking that Jesus enter into the person's heart.

The Sinner's Prayer can also be repeated after someone modeling the prayer role. In most cases someone who has already accepted Jesus in their heart, that is an active church member, invites a friend or family to church and a Pastor makes the salvation call at the end of the church service. If you're reading this post today, you can accept Christ now without a pastor, or anyone to lead you into the prayer. (Sinner's Prayer below if you would like Jesus to be the center of your life!)

Questions you may have regarding the Sinner's Prayer and Salvation:

1. What is repentance?

Repentance is the activity of reviewing one's actions and feeling contrition or regret for past wrongs, which is accompanied by a commitment to change for the better. In modern times, it is generally seen as involving a commitment to personal change and the resolve to live a more responsible and humane life. This involves being sorry for one's misdeeds, and having sorrow over a specific sin or series of sins that an individual feels he or she has committed. The practice of repentance plays an important role in Christianity. There are religions that also practice repentance, but our focus is on Christianity which is not a religion, but a relationship with Jesus Christ.

2. What is salvation:

Salvation in Christianity, also called deliverance, or redemption, is the saving of human beings from death and separation from God by Christ's death and resurrection, and the justification following this salvation.

3. What is the meaning of born again:

Born again, or to experience the new birth, is a phrase, particularly in evangelicalism, that refers to spiritual rebirth, or a regeneration of the human spirit from the Holy Spirit, contrasted with physical birth. Recieving Christ Jesus as Lord and savior makes you born again!

Bible reference:

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Biblical Proof of a sinner's prayer from Psalmist King David

Psalm 51

1Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
